Screen-based outcomes such as apps and websites are not static like their print-based counterparts. However, most higher education design program curricula dedicate a significant amount of time and energy to creating outcomes that never change, such as posters, brochures, environmental signage. In this paper, published in the GDC Graphic Design Journal, I shared how design education can shift to teaching designing for ever-shifting screen-based user experiences by integrating front-end coding instruction into traditional, static user interface design.
