The Need
A short description of what this piece is designed to accomplish. The project asked us to design a wearable that would make life easier. I went one step further, I designed a space suit with a built-in cupholder.
Process Work
I started researching spacesuit failures—how spacesuits create problems for astronauts. It became very clear that cupholders were a necessary feature, so I started sketching ideas.
Testing Materials for the Cupholder
With all due respect… it isn’t necessary to give Captain Jellico command of the Enterprise in order to conduct a negotiation. You’re the one who said it. And while we’re at it… this isn’t part of any human future… All hands, this is Commander Riker. We are about to engage impulse engines for a short burst. Inertial dampers are on manual. They may not fully compensate for acceleration. Brace yourselves.
Early Mockups
These were my first ideas. The process involved a lot of paper mockups and revisions.
Completed Draft
The spacesuit was almost complete at this stage. However, some features I built in between this and the final version took it to the next level. I asked some astronaut friends to help me develop these important features.
The Solution
This final solution keeps astronauts alive, and it makes sure they have a cold beverage within reach when they need it.

For Next Time
- Start with more sketches and color tests.
- I’d like to try this design with a completely different style
